Blackpools Ride The lights, Illuminations preview, is back again for 2025 on Tuesday 26th August 2025 Time 7pm to 10pm

The late August Tuesday evening prior to the Blackpool Illuminations switch on times 2025 is the night for cyclists to enjoy a preview of Blackpool illuminations with the Ride The Lights cycle event. This event which has been held annually since 2006 sees the closing of the Promenade to all vehicles except trams and bicycles. A brilliant way to get a preview of the lights before the official 2025 Blackpool Illuminations switch on.

The six mile stretch of the Blackpool Promenade, including the Golden Mile, from Starr Gate Tram Terminus in South Shore to Red Bank Road in Bispham. The event is free and open to everyone.

Groups of cyclists, some clad in elaborate costumes, will gather at various entry points along Blackpool Golden Mile, including Starr Gate, South Shore, and Red Bank Road in Bispham. Participants are free to join or depart the route at any location. The event is anticipated to attract approximately ten thousand riders, making it a lively and enjoyable ride for all.

Many cyclists will adorn their their bikes with a personal take on Blackpool Illuminations. So, fasten your flashing lights and hit the road!

All bicycles must meet road regulations, including a functioning white light at the front and a red light at the back. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and it is recommended that all cyclists wear helmets.

During the event, there will be marshals, first aid personnel, bicycle mechanics and support vehicles available along the route for your convenience. Please keep in mind that trams will also be operating, so please steer clear of the tracks.

The Ride the Lights event is a free and enjoyable bike ride for everyone, it is NOT a race. It's a fantastic chance to explore Blackpool Illuminations with your loved ones while riding your bicycle, or strolling along the front if cycling is not your thing.

The Ride The Lights hub at Tower Festival Headland will be the main source of entertainment, with Radio Wave DJs ensuring that the party never stops.

As previously mentioned, the Blackpool Trams will be in operation. For those who are no longer able to cycle and those who simply wish too see t he entertaining event without cycling, there is an opportunity to view the illuminations and cyclists from the new trams.
